We have been using the whey and found it lacks the manufactored smell of laundry detergent, but it does seem to break down the surface tension of the water and the clothes look and smell clean. We add a small amount of reg laundry detergent to add that smell we expect... at least the clothes do not smell like beans.

I usually (again, guiltily), throw the whey away, although SusanV recently commented that she waters her plants with it, so I tried that last time. They haven't died at a rate any faster than usual, so that's good. The loaves of bread pictured in this post display my attempt at baking with the whey, which went very badly. So washing with it or feeding it to the plants - anything that doesn't involve cooking with it - seems to be the way to go, for me anyway.

Have you found any good use for the whey? I have heard that it works as a natural detergent. I will try it and let you know how, or if, it works.
